MODI REPLACES GANDHI IN KHADI UDYOG DIARY, CALENDAR
Narendra Modi has been active in promoting Khadi sector since the day he joined the term. The Khadi Sector also saw stupendous rise in sale as well as publicity after PM urged people to wear Khadi. Everyone has appreciated the Prime Minister’s role towards Khadi.
But What turned out to be a controversy is the fact that Khadi Udyog has featured Narendra Modi’s picture instead of Mahatma Gandhi’s Picture on its Annual Calendar of 2017 and diary published by the Khadi Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
It has been the custom that Gandhi’s picture has always been used by the Khadi Industry since, it was Gandhi who took the initiative of promoting Khadi while fighting the war of Independence. Gandhi has been the picture boy of Khadi since then. But What turned out irksome for the people was the picture of Modi weaving khadi on a large ‘charkha’, in the same classic pose as Gandhi.
Ignited by the act by KVIC, some of the workers staged protest against the controversial act and demanded the reprinting of calendars and diaries with Gandhiji’s picture on it. When asked from one of the KVIC official the reason behind such move he said “No one can even think of ignoring the Mahatma. He was and would be the guiding force for entire Khadi industry across the India. Khadi industry is based on his philosophy and intrinsic association with it, “In last October, Modiji distributed 500 Charkhas to women spinners in Ludhiana. In order to commemorate that historical moment, it was decided to print his picture on calendars.”
Some of the officials added on while saying that Prime Minister has been active in promotion of Khadi Materials as he himself wears it plus he is the youth icon which would further popularize the Khadi products.
