The festival of Dhanteras marks the beginning of the five-day long Diwali celebrations all over India.

His newly wedded wife, was aware of that prediction therefore she laid out all her gold and silver jewelries and all her ornaments & furbished the whole place with lamps. Then, she sang melodious songs whole night to keep her husband from falling asleep. Then as per the prediction Lord Yama, the God of death, arrived there in a form of snake, he found himself unable to enter the prince’s chamber as he was dazzled and blinded by the light of the lamps and jewelry, and so he climbed the heap of ornaments and coins and listened to the songs sung by the wife.
Next morning, he went away without taking the life of the prince. In this manner, the young wife saved her husband from the death itself. Hence, this day also known as ‘Yamadeepdaan‘.
