Story Behind Bhai Dooj

Bhai Dooj is also known as ‘Yama Dwitiya’ as it is  believed that on this day, Yamaraj, the Lord of Death, visits his sister Yami, who puts the auspicious Tika on the forehead of Lord Yama and prays for his happiness and well being.

Another story behind Bhai Dooj is on this day, Lord Krishna, after assassinating the Narakasura demon, goes to his sister Subhadra who greets him with the beautiful holy lamp, colourful flowers and lots of sweet, and puts the sacred protective Tika on her brother’s forehead.
