The model-turned-actress won the hearts of the audience and critics with her blockbuster debut film, “Pardes” opposite Shah Rukh Khan. She swept away for the year including the Filmfare Best Debut, beating Aishwarya Rai who had also made her debut in the same year. Mahima was not only beautiful but she was highly talented and often praised for her dialogue delivery. The pretty girl, however, made a few wrong choices in films which led to her downfall.
Ameesha Patel was never that great an actress but she looked very promising in her debut film and the blockbuster of 2000 “Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai” opposite Hrithik Roshan. Ameesha was one of the very few newcomers to have appeared in blockbuster films like “Kaho Na Pyar Hain” and “Gadar Ek Prem Katha” consecutively. With two blockbusters and a pretty face, one can only wonder how can you possibly go wrong? Well, Miss Patels’ controversies never seemed to leave her. She had an open affair with Vikram Bhatt and had even filed a lawsuit against her own parents. Coupled with her haughty nature and mediocre acting skills, she was fated to sooner or later fade away.
Twinkle Khanna debuted with the box office super hit Barsaat in 1995 and also won all the Filmfare Best Debut Award for her performance. After a few films, Twinkle realized that her acting career was not going anywhere. She had also developed a keen interest in interior design. As such, Twinkle got married to actor Akshay Kumar in 2001 and is now a leading interior designer. She runs her own interior design store in Mumbai.
Shamita Shetty made her dream debut in 2000 with the Yash Raj Films blockbuster Mohabbatein, which was directed by Aditya Chopra. The movie also starred big names like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai. Her portrayal earned her the 2001 IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female. Since then, she mostly found success in item numbers, including Sharara Sharara in Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai and Chori Pe Chori in Saathiya but was not able to grab meaty acting roles in films. In 2011, Shetty claimed she was not getting the kind of films she wished and announced her retirement from acting to start a career in interior design.
There was a lot of hype around Esha Deol when she was about to enter the film world. And why not? Afterall, she is the daughter of Bollywood’s dream girl, Hema Malini and the evergreen Dharmendra. Esha’s debut film Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe in 2002 bombed but yet she won a Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. After that, Esha only saw a string of flop films one after theother. Her only other hit movie was “Dhoom” which released in 2004. After few more commercially unsuccessful movies, Esha got married to her boyfriend Bharat Takhtani, on 29 June 2012.
