25 OUT OF 33 ADS BY RAMDEV’S PATANJALI WERE FALSE & MISLEADING: ASCI
The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has declared that 25 out of 33 Advertisements by Patanjali are false and misleading and has violated ASCI code. During April 2015 and July 2016, complaints were received by ASCI against the 33 Ads by Patanjali out of which 25 were found to be misleading and false.
Baba Ramdev Led Patanjali Ayurved has always claimed to be pure and SWADESI but this Swadesi slogan has not gone quite correct with the Advertising Standard as the company is defaulter under Section 2(1) (r) of the Consumer Protection Act 1986 which says that “the practice of making any statement, whether orally or in writing or by visible representation which falsely represents that the goods are of a particular standard, Quality, Quantity, Grade, composition style or model; falsely represents that the services are of a paricular standard, quality or grade, falls under unfair trade practices.”
What is ASCI and its Authority?
ASCI is a voluntary self-regulatory body of Advertisement Industry. It monitors the Advertising sphere in such a way that they is no unfair trade practices or unfair competition.
The Ads which were found to be violative of ASCI code were actually for the reason of adveritising content they had in themselves. In one of the Ads pertaining to Patanjali Dant Kanti which had certain claims was found violating the code of ASCI for the reason of no scientific backing or data to support the claim.
